Will there be babies in heaven..this was something I discussed yesterday with a lady from the church we attend. She thinks that yes, there will be babies and children in heaven while I said that we will be resurrected/changed to a body like unto Christ, that being one of maturity.
I think that we tend to humanize the glorified state too much. One day with the Lord is as 1,000 years and 1,000 years is as one day. Wouldn't that mean that there is no aging in heaven? And if there is no aging in heaven, then a baby who dies would be a baby through eternity. A child would be a child through eternity. Would God have someone be a baby or a child for all eternity? What does the bible say about this?
1 Corinthians 15:35-38 "But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come? Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die: and that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain: But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body."
From these verses we know that the body is a seed, and the resurrected body will not be the body that has died, but a body as it pleases God, and to every seed his own body.
V43-44 - ....it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: it is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body....
The natural body is not the same as the resurrected body.
What of the opposite to babies, one who dies at a very old age? will they be very old in heaven? what of the martyrs whose bodies were torn apart or burned? What of those who have been cremated and whose bodies are now ashes? Will not these bodies be resurrected in perfection? The resurrected body will be very different from the earthly body.
In the bible the number 30 is physical and spiritual maturity. Jesus began his ministry at his baptism at the age of 30, he died on the cross and was resurrected 3 1/2 years later. Therefore it is too much of a stretch to wonder if the resurrected body will also be as appearing unto that age? If so, that would mean that babies and children who perish, and old people and martyrs will be perfectly resurrected to that age.
Anyway, these are just the musings of my mind.
