The Lamb of God - The Lord Jesus Christ

The Lamb of God - The Lord Jesus Christ

This is a further meditation on the Lamb of God, but this time that perfect sacrifice enters the world as a baby, born of Mary, born a King,  the Lord Jesus Christ.

Philippians 2:5-11 "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

Why was the Lord Jesus our perfect sacrifice?  Why was He the perfect Lamb of God?  John the Baptist said upon seeing the approaching Jesus, "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."  (John 1:29)

In the Holy Bible, old testament, every year one would take a sacrificial lamb, without spot and without blemish, to the priest.  The lamb would be slain, his blood was shed, and the person for whom the blood was shed was thus looking forward to the Saviour to come. Hebrews 9:12,15. “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us….and for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, that they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance..

When the Lord Jesus shed His precious blood and gave up His life on the cross, He was offered up Once for All.  Hebrews 10:9-10 "Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God.  He taketh away the first that he may establish the second.  By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all."

We are redeemed by the precious blood of Christ  - 1 Peter 1:18-19 "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot."

Because the Lord Jesus was come into this world of a virgin birth, He had no human father, Luke 1:35 “The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee; therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God “ The Lord Jesus was fully God and fully man and thus was our perfect sacrifice, He was sinless, undefiled, yet clothed in human flesh as we are.  He came for the purpose of dying on that cross, so that He, being fully human, yet fully God, yet without sin, could die in our place.  God laid the penalty for sin on the Lord Jesus in our place.  By His death and resurrection, He obtained redemption for those who receive Him by faith and are saved.

He made it possible for us to go before the throne of God in prayer.  At His crucifixion the veil of the temple was rent in two, and now we have access to holy God through Christ.  If the Lord Jesus Christ was not the perfect sacrifice, there would have been no resurrection.  But His atoning death was sufficient for us.  And we are instructed Hebrews 10:19-22 “having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; and having an high priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith....."

Praise the Lord, our perfect sacrifice..

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
